Abarkouh is located with a 140 km distance from the province's capital in the West. Its area is about 5381 km2 and its population is 49277 (2015) persons. This city has two main districts (central and Bahman) and four rural districts.
Agriculture, services and industry are the main sources of income for the people living in Abarkouh.
The main products of Abarkouh’s farms are wheat and pistachio (the second main product of Abarkouh). There are other garden and farm products in Abarkouh namely: apricot, pomegranate and grape, egg-plant, onion and cantaloupe. Traditional poultry farming and cattle breeding and fattening are other economic activities in this city.
Among tourist attractions of the city -besides ancient texture of the city- it can be referred to: 4000-year-old cypress, Aghzadeh House, Auli dome, Arg-e-Shahrasb, Jameh Mosque, Pir Hamzeh Sabzpush tomb and Abarkouh mud brick ice ditch.
Geographical position of the city, ease of transportation to other provinces’ capitals namely Fars, Isfahan, Kohkelouieh and Boirahmad has made the city the trading gate of the province in the west. Industrial infrastructures (industrial parks), gas transmission line, expert human force in industry and mine technologies, many quarries and fireclay, feldspar, marble, easy access to target markets, tendency to investment in industry and suitable climatic conditions can be considered as capacities and potential of this city.
