Taft is located with a 18 km distance from the province's capital in the Southwest. The area of this city is 5846 km2. The city has three main districts and 10 rural districts and its population is 43522 (2015) persons. Taft's climate is semi-arid. As far as it is located in the piedmont of Shirkouh, it experiences milder summers and more rainfalls than Yazd. That's why most of the recreational centers and villa areas of the province are in this city. 65% of Taft’s population are employed in agriculture and gardening.
Considerable resources such as ornamental stones, clay, industrial soil, lead, zinc, copper etc, its location near the gas transmission line, two industrial parks and two industrial areas and exploitation of Ali Abad and Darezereshk copper mines are among the mining and industrial capacities of the city. The most important handicraft industries in this city are swing Giveh and carpet weaving.
Agriculture and livestock husbandry have considerable boom in this city. Pomegranate, almond, walnut, apple, pear, black cherry, cherry, peach and flower fostering are among the agricultural productions of the city. In livestock husbandry section it can be referred to cattle-breeding, sheep keeping and poultry farming (in traditional ways) aviculture, apiculture.
The important historical and natural attractions of the city are Sheikh Joneid, Shah Valy Complex (Hosseineh , mosque, tomb, bazaar, Nakhl , and etc.), Ghadmgah-e-Islamieh, Touran-e-Posht Jameh Mosque, Sakhvid ski slop, Darehgahan Falls, and the tourism villages (Islamieh, Sanij, Tezerjan, Dehbala and Banadak Sadat)
