General characteristics of Yazd province
About 95% of Yazd province’s area is natural resources. There are different kinds of vegetation over the province. Flora such as Kali، Soda، tamarisk، santonica، sweet meadow and wild lettuce exist in low plains with hot and dry climate. In regions with more appropriate climate, plants like leatherwork and camels–thorn are grown. In fertile regions of the province valuable herbs such as amole, milk vetch and Kolah Mirhosein are grown that are considered as remarkable flora in the province’s pasture. Some of these plants such as asafetida and milk vetch are of medical and industrial importance.
In areas with more appropriate climate, one can observe the restricted and valuable forests of the province like almond and terebinth forests (Khatam), Badamoshk and Sanu forests (Tabas) and Aras (Bajegan in Bafgh). These forests play an important role in weather adjustment, soil erosion control, surface weather control, underground water enrichment and are also important promenades.
Tamarisk and triplex bushes are grown in man-made forests of the province located in Abarkuh pan، Marvast، Harat, Siahkuh، Bafgh، Dae Anjir and Bahabad. These forests are important in preventing desertification and drifting sands.
