Water Resources

The major water resources of the province are aquifers including 6733 wells, qanats and springs, providing the province with more than 1078 million cubic meters of water per year. Qanat, as one of the rare phenomena in water recovery, is a smart method for exploitation of underground water resources, illustrating the past generations’ resourcefulness and struggle for providing water. The province’s deprivation of permanent surface water resources and its need for water led to the projects to transfer water from other provinces. At present 60 million cubic meters of water is transferred to the province annually by the transmission pipe-line and in near future, by utilizing the second transmission pipe-line, this amount will be increased to 150 million cubic meters that can fully respond to the development needs of the province.
